A Warm Welcome to Fr. Ronnie O.M.I

We thank God for as a new member of the China Delegation who has arrived this month.

Fr. Ronnie Gicalao was born of Chinese parents in Cebu city in the Philippines.  Baptized a Catholic, he was raised a Buddhist.  By training and profession he was a professional accountant for several years.

With the coming of Pope John Paul II to Manila for World Youth Day, he had a strong religious awakening that led him to become a practicing Catholic and eventually to a vocation as an Oblate priest.

He was ordained in December, 2005 and has spent the past year and a half in pastoral work in Midsayap, Mindanao.  He received his missionary assignment from the Superior General and arrived in Hong Kong September 15.

Fr. Ronnie will be living at St. Alfred’s parish in Hong Kong while he does his language studies in Cantonese at nearby Chinese University.
