Oblate annual retreat

I think we all know that the biggest obstacles to mission are the ones inside of us.These are the things we knowingly or unknowingly carry in our minds and hearts. The burden of our inner struggles, doubts, and complexities can undermine our best efforts at evangelization before we know it.

What do we do in the face of our all too human weakness?   In our May retreat, Fr. Richard McAlear, O.M.I.  reminded us that we have a resource that we all know of but too frequently forget.  And that is the Spirit of God that Jesus promised those he sent as his witnesses.

With the liberating presence of the Spirit, we begin to let go of the heavy chains of past hurts and conflicts.  Slowly we begin to forgive. We forgive others, ourselves, and yes, sometimes even forgive God.  With that, a new joy enters our lives.

Life and ministry become lighter. No wonder, Richard likes to point out that forgiveness is the essence of the Christian mission.  So thank you Richard for walking with us and reminding us of that.   Now may we live it together!

This is also the place to say thanks to Harry Dyer O.M.I. and Vin McGillicuddy O.M.I. (new Australian provincial and treasurer, respectively) for showing the support of the Australian province by their presence and participation.
